Boys in trees

Broelkaai 6, Kortrijk

In a world increasingly driven by the synthetic and the fleeting, Boys in Trees brings us back to something elemental — wood. This exhibition is an ode to design furniture crafted from wood, celebrating the enduring power of a material that has shaped our environments, our history, and our imagination for millennia.
Each work is a study in material honesty — revealing how wood, in all its varieties and textures, speaks through design. From the quiet density of walnut to the open warmth of ash, the exhibition explores how wood can embody both structure and soul.
It is a material that remembers: every knot, grain, and crack is a trace of time, growth, and place.
But wood is more than a vessel of memory — it is an invitation to touch, to experience, to feel. The designers in this exhibition have worked with and against the grain — cutting, bending, joining, and polishing with reverence for the living nature of the material. There is tension here — between wildness and control, form and function — and it is precisely in that tension that the essence of craft resides.
Boys in Trees is not a nostalgic return to traditional making, but a contemporary reflection on how wood continues to shape the future of design. In an age of impermanence, these works stand firm — grounded, breathing, alive.
Welcome to an exhibition where furniture is not only made — but grown, remembered, and reimagined.
